Latest development is I've had to get a letter from my accountant to confirm the amount I've had to pay in extra tax based on the error and will have to see what they come back with (only emailed the letter this evening). Sadly it means the Tuesday collection is very unlikely, as I won't be able to reject the car under the Sale Of Goods Act if I've collected it then decide I can't agree compensation.

If the Co2 rating was changed after you ordered the car, I don't think they would have any choice but to pay for the difference in tax. I don't think you should reject the car, given the time it takes to get a new one. If they don't want to pay, you can always go to the small claim tribunal and this would be an easy win anyway.

Does it make that much of a difference to get really annoyed with them? I don't know anything about company car tax and Co2 taxation and I am interested to know how much in £ this would cost.

For me it means paying an extra £6400 tax this year.

Surely, you are able to read my full post, beyond the first few words??

Not that hard to work out the tax to be paid based on the Co2 rating of a car (at least for a company car).
The tax rate would be 12% for 105 to 109, and 13% for 110 to 114 for a petrol car (so actually, 110 or 112 makes no difference)

Multiplied by the value of the car, this gives the amount taxable per year.

    Example: Co2 rating is 109
    Tax rate=12%
    Car value= £25,000
    Income tax rate=41%
    Company car tax= 12% x £25,000 x 41% = £1,332 per year

This is for benefit in kind for company cars.

I am a sole trader and I would be able to claim 100% of the car's value against tax in the first year if it is 110gCO2 (which is the reason for my purchase), however I can only claim 18% in the first year if it is between 111-160gCO2.

Quite a big difference indeed! but you would also need to deduct your private use, so probably not 100% of the car value to start with...

That is with my personal use deducted (It's 2/3rds business and 1/3rd personal) plus I'm a 40% tax payer.

But then don't you get to claim 65% of the car value against tax rather than 100% as you stated?

Yes, but then I'd only get 65% of 18% too.

Personally that is correct but the fact is it is possible to claim the full value against tax vs the usual 18% and the change in the CO2 emissions is the root cause.
