I have been thinking about this for some time and would like to ask what is involved?, aquiring the parts is not a problem but im thinking more along the lines of torque management and ecu issues?. Has anyone done it?. The car is on the limit with power and torque for 2wd hence the question, its an A4, b7, 2.7 Tdi with 6 speed manual gearbox (2006). Thanks in advance
If this proves to be too much hassle or cost then I guess I will be looking for a new project car in the next year or so

technically all the parts should be able to be fitted, is there a 2.7 tdi quattro b7?

theres probably alot of minute and tedious things you would need to change, possibly the gearbox too, along with all the electronics etc

dont forget about the dvla and your insurance etc

far better and easier to buy a quattro which was a quattro from factory lol

Been looking thru the forums and a few have done it by having a doner car. Tbh although I have spent a packet to get mine where I want it I have been eyeing up an A6 3.0 Avant Quattro Le Mans as I will need something to tow the race car this year. Thanks for your input Chris

    NOOOOOO!!!

It would be an interesting project, and anything can be done with determination but A6 is right; sell your car and buy the Quattro equivalent instead. Far better option on all counts; especially cost.

Think too of when you finally came to sell the car; it would probably be worth less then than it was in its original 2wd guise no matter how well you had carried out the work.

    Happy New Year

    All parts aquired
RS4 rear diff and sub frame with half shafts
RS4 fuel tank, will flush it out etc before it goes on
3.0 Tdi quattro 6 speed box with mount and propshaft
Will need to re-use my rear discs and brakes plus change the gear oil in the box and diff just to ensure that there is no metal bits, hope to get the swap over done in the next 5 weeks, will keep you all posted and take lots of photos.
There is bound to be some snags but I'm looking forward to having a truely unique car.

You'll need the rear hubs too. Does your car have the same floor pan as the quattro? I.e is there room for the prop shaft? The exhaust maybe different also to accommodate the shaft.
Fuel pump systems are different on diesels, so check if you can get your sender into the RS4 tank.

Is the RS4 rear diff geared the same as the front diff of the 3.0TDi gearbox? If not, you'll break something in the first 10 yards of driving it.

I look forward to seeing this as frankly i think its a LOT of work for little gain.

Floor pan is identical to quattro even have all the extra holes for the sub frame and gearbox mounts, point taken regarding the tank, will probably re-use my fuel pump and lines and the rear diff has hubs but discs and calipers not included. Will make sure to check the ratio's but can also get the RS4 gearbox to match the diff if required. The driver for this is 503 lbs/ft of torque up front so adding quattro is a logical step to stop to loss of traction, im already up to 255.35.19 tyres and it shreads then easily. And dont want to go any wider. Thanks for your comnents will keep things updated ad we go

The exhaust is custom built and was being modded anyway before this conversion, guess we are going to be busy with the welding set
