    Hi guys,

Just went to drive home from relatives tonight but I can't get into my car! No alarm indication on door LED, key fob won't work Central Locking, key won't operate door.

Any ideas how I might get ionto the car to release the nbonnet to try and jump start the engine?

    Cheers

Did you try your spare key in the door lock?

Is odd that the door lock won't even open the drivers door

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. Am at relatives house so don't have my spare key with me. there is no LED flashing on the door. The key inserted in the drivers door lock will not release the locks. its just dead. I can't get into the drivers door as this is de-locked, but I don't think this would make any differnece, as there is no juice from the battery.

I think that we may possibly have left the sidelights on when we arrived at our relatives house and just forgot to turn off the sidelights!!! What an idiot, I know!

Sorry, forgot to clarify....I am in my Mk4 Golf GTi 3-dr. Boot and drivers doors are both delocked so only point-of-entry in the drivers door which, thankfully, I did not delock. However, the lock won't operate as I think the battery is flat.
Checked the power in the fob. Batteries at 2.98v each, so this is not the problem. Just the battery as dead as a dodo!

its deadlocked, you won't get in. you need to get a jump lead or booster pack onto something thats always live. possible the starter motor, oil level sender, or a sidelight if they are negative switched (i.e perm live)

Yep! Thats what I did....feel really stupid but there you go...HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

The AA arrived but try as the guy could, he couldn't release the bonnet catch or door lever using the usual techniques so we ended up smashing the side window to gain access.

Bonnet up, car jumped and started....b&*dy cold drive home early AM though...good job it wasn't raining!

Now need to replace the glass!

I won't leave the lights on again, thats for sure!!!

sorry, what i meant was if you left your side lights on then they will be directly connected to the battery so could be used to connect a jump lead to.
glad you got home, at least it wasn't as cold as it could have been.

I have thought the AA man would have known about the jump lead to a starter or light? Perhaps it was his first flat battery callout...

snap doc, they should really know about things like that. they carry jump packs, its only a case of finding a live wire.
