    Hi,
my '96 2.0L 8v cabriolet intermitantly cuts outs, revs jump up and down causing jerking and backfiring . Also, strange clicking noise occurs around ignition switch/dashboard whilst this is happening.

Throttle body was cleaned out year ago which resolved stalling at low revs. Mechanics computers says halls sensor fault, replaced distributor problem still occurring. Now says crank shaft sensor which will cost £200! Mechanic could be very wealthy before problem resolved!!

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers you guys...

I have a Mk 3 Golf GTI 16V, my car used to cut out for no reason, jerk etc. I have just changed the crank sensor, fault cured!

    Golf Mk 3, 1.6GLS, auto, 98,000miles

Have just had crank sensor and coil replaced, but this has not cured problem.

Car cuts out on warm up, maybe 70 - 80 deg, and then starts after 1 - 2 mins and runs fine all day when hot.

Get HT spark when in "faulty" mode.

No diagnostics reported at all. Regularly serviced.

    Any tips please?

    Tony

Try doing a Google on part number 165906381 and you will see lots of Golf problems with this relay. It only costs £11 from the dealer.
