I now have an appointment to test drive a 2.0 TDI DSG on Friday afternoon. The dealer also confirmed they have a SE model in the showroom as of today.

I called in to my local dealer today and they did have a new SE model. I liked the outside and was impressed by the quality of the interior. Equally as good as my current A3. I prefer the touch screen arrangement to the pop-up screen and MMI of the new A3. The car was fitted with several extras, including the mirror pack which means the door mirrors fold in automatically when the ignition is turned off and fold out again when it's turned on again. All the levers and switches felt good quality and very smooth in their action. Being an SE model it had the brushed stainless-steel on the centre console and it looked good. Much better than in some of the photographs I've seen. It's certainly not bright silver in colour but a nice darker shade. The steering wheel felt comfortable and was fitted with quite a few switches to control various items. The luggage compartment was a good size with the two floor levels available and the rear seats folded very easily with getting caught up with the rear seat belts.

What was also nice is the salesman seem to know everything there was to know about the car which makes a pleasant change.

I have a test drive booked for Friday and I will be very interested to know goes and feels as good as it looks.

I've ordered one (2.0tdi GT DSG) with the leather and full electric seat/memory seat combination. However, none of the showrooms I have spoken to know whether or not the elec seat memory works off the keys. My 55 Passat did, as did my 52 Merc, but VW also do a version where the memory requires you to push a button on the door. I do hope the memory works from the keys. Otherwise it will be a cheapo, nasty solution.

The fun continues with backside and elbow equally baffling to VW. I see the New Golf is now listed on the VCA website and somehow the 3 door manual 1.4 ACT and 5 door DSG 1.4 ACT have the same fuel efficiency but emit different levels of CO2 (by 3g/km). Amazingly according to the website the 1.2 TSi manages to do 57.6mpg combined yet somehow has better CO2 figures than the 1.4 TSi ACT 5-door manual which does 58.9mpg combined (114 vs 117g CO2).

This really is shocking for a company like VW who supposedly have a great reputation for efficiency and accuracy. I'll be calling VW back as I haven't heard back and clearly something has to be wrong with the figures as it remains physically impossible to have a better or equal mpg and worse CO2 emissions.
