Seems VW have finally got round to updating the pricelist and also you can book a test drive on their website (Home : Golf : New : Volkswagen UK). £260 for the winter pack with leather seats and £350 (yes, you read that correctly!) for the winter pack with the Xenons alone. The full winter pack is £370. Few small price increases (paint up £5), but the electric leather seats are up about £150.

Also of note is in the pricelist they have changed the emissions for the 1.4 ACT GT with DSG to 112gCO2/km, yet the mpg remains the same as the previous brochure at 60.1mpg, which works out as 109.7gCO2/km and is consistent with the previously quoted figures. It remains the same in the brochure and on the website so it's probably just another typo, or does anyone have some other information?

Like the way the "Limited Offer" fixed price servicing at £329, only if ordered before the end of the December 2012 in the previous price list, now expires at the end of March 2013!!!

£350 is for the winter pack in conjunction with the Xenons (I've made it clearer in the original post) - given they come with the headlight washer jets and low washer warning it's a bit steep!

The top box is from the price list of 19th October and the bottom one is from 10th December. Note that the 3dr 1.4 ACT manual and 1.4 ACT DSG have the same mpg yet different CO2 emissions, which is impossible as the CO2 is calculated from the mpg. I have tried to discuss with VW today but didn't get very far as the person I was speaking to did not understand this and was quoting out of a hardbook of specification he said was dated 18th October and stated the CO2 emissions are 112g/km but nowhere has this figure been quoted outside of the new brochure and the website continues to show the CO2 as 110g/km. I'm waiting on a callback from VW tech support so will update when I hear something.

I wouldn't hold your breath, unfortunately they don't seem to know there own product! Last time I asked something similar it took about a month to get a response basically re-quoting the handbook.

I called in to my local dealer today and they did have a new SE model. I liked the outside and was impressed by the quality of the interior. Equally as good as my current A3. I prefer the touch screen arrangement to the pop-up screen and MMI of the new A3. The car was fitted with several extras, including the mirror pack which means the door mirrors fold in automatically when the ignition is turned off and fold out again when it's turned on again. All the levers and switches felt good quality and very smooth in their action. Being an SE model it had the brushed stainless-steel on the centre console and it looked good. Much better than in some of the photographs I've seen. It's certainly not bright silver in colour but a nice darker shade. The steering wheel felt comfortable and was fitted with quite a few switches to control various items. The luggage compartment was a good size with the two floor levels available and the rear seats folded very easily with getting caught up with the rear seat belts.

What was also nice is the salesman seem to know everything there was to know about the car which makes a pleasant change.

I have a test drive booked for Friday and I will be very interested to know goes and feels as good as it looks.

I've ordered one (2.0tdi GT DSG) with the leather and full electric seat/memory seat combination. However, none of the showrooms I have spoken to know whether or not the elec seat memory works off the keys. My 55 Passat did, as did my 52 Merc, but VW also do a version where the memory requires you to push a button on the door. I do hope the memory works from the keys. Otherwise it will be a cheapo, nasty solution.

I now have an appointment to test drive a 2.0 TDI DSG on Friday afternoon. The dealer also confirmed they have a SE model in the showroom as of today.

My local VW dealer is holding a New Golf Testdrive Weekend on 11-13 January. Just turn up and drive. No indication yet of which models will be available but I will pop along and a least get the chance to see actual UK models in the flesh.
