On Monday morning I was planning to get two new front tyres. When I bought the car it had Conti SC3's on the front and almost brand new P-Zeros on the rear. I don't mind having P-Zeros but heard they wear quite quickly and basically overrated. So was in a quandary as to what to do. Didn't really want to fork out for 4 new tyres and not sure what to put on the fronts and then later replace the rears to the same as I would have put on the front

But coming home from a pub dinner this happened on the left rear.

    Arrrrrgh!!

Was in some nice clothes, belly full and these wheels are not what you'd call light! However it's nice to see the jacking system is the best I've seen, seemed very secure as I always have visions of the car thing rocking of it's jack. Should have paid more attention as the orientation of the placement of the jack in the boot. About throw the thing through my window (maybe the windscreen would have been appropriate lol.....see my windscreen thread) trying to get it back in it holder

Anyway so now with an Avon as the spare, one P-Zero and 2 conti's almost worn to the indicators, I'm going to have to buy four now arn't I.

Theres a Premier Blackcircles garage near me and they seem to be decent prices not to mention tesco club points on some. Looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport 3's which have 8000 extra points which in a roundabout way means they work out at £195 each.

Although the Goodyear Eagle F1's are rated as quieter, slightly better economy results and just as good in the wet. I think Chris has these?

So I don't want to turn this into a tyre thread and will check up on that particular thread, but I assume I can't go wrong with either of these?

So I'm not happy, my bank balance is not happy, but at least I be having some all new treads to try

Tell me about it!! I had a slow puncture on Saturday in Dumfries when travelling down - was something that I definitely didn't need!

I had those Goodyears on but they wore extremely quickly and the car had a full laser alignment after they were fitted, from memory they only touched the 12k mark then needed replaced.

I put PS2's on after these, the fronts needed replaced after 34k-ish due to bad alignment on the front at my last mot in January. The rears must have about 36-7k on them now but will need replaced in the next couple of weeks. Will check when I get home as I can't remember off the top of my head.

Will be buying Michelin again for sure, okay they're a bit more expensive than everything else but the range and mileage benefit is second to none.

Driving style was the same on both sets, 50/50 motorway/town.

Never nice getting a pucture, remember taking my Jag to be MOT'd in 2011 and both rears had nails in too close to the sidewall to be repaired

Much to the annoyance of the MOT place made a call to a partworn specialist and got a pair with 6mm of tread for less than £100 delivered...pretty cheap for 255/45/18's.

Worth a punt at some partworns as there are some that import from Germany with 5-6mm on them.

Asda's worth a look if you're not a Costco member, or Tyre Shopper sponsor the forum & seem reasonable value.

Last I checked, Costco for ps3's were £236 each with Nitro, but think it was in AutoCar they found it made zero difference. I would get cashback as I have exec account with them, but Black Circles would still be cheaper and get plenty of Tesco Points

So ordered 4x ps3's fitted Wednesday.

Yes it's costing getting four, but if I'm honest I'm glad the results will be having all new, same all round branding. Be interesting to see tyre wear front to back now. Wonder if it'll be close enough that next time I'll need all four at the same time again? Think I've read the rears will easily outlast the fronts?

Michelin Pilot Sport 3's have 'A' wet rating & 71db sound rating. They give me excellent ride & grip, would recommend to anyone.

I was so, so tempted to get these, as Jim said on another thread it took a lot for him to risk trying these. I chickened out partly down the noise level that many have criticised them of having and partly to being able to stick mine on the credit card with 18months interest free so got a good spread of penalty free payments.

But reckon I might give these a try next time tho.
