A6 questions / model problems

Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum - I joined a couple of weeks ago.

I have been looking to buy an A6 avant for some time now and have finally decided on a 2011 A6 1.9 TDI (Le Mans styling).

This might be a tough quesion - i'm looking for some buying tips such as common faults to look for, any ongoing issue with this particular build/type and views from owners of this vehicle.

Hi,

A 2011 car will be the C6 variant, so it's worth asking the mods to move this thread over there for you. You won't find a 1.9TDi though - the last A6s with the 1.9 engine were the C5 models, which were replaced by the C6 in 2004. If you're looking at a 2011 car, it's probably the 2.0TDi engine, which is a Common Rail (CR) engine by then. These were available in 136BHP TDIe and 170BHP TDI variants, although I think the Le Mans (or S line Special Edition as they were rebranded) only came with the 170 engines. These seem to have very few faults - I drove a CR170 TDi A6 C6 for three years / 60,000 miles, and the only mechanical issue was a faulty exhaust gas pressure sensor which was replaced under warranty.

On an Avant, look in the boot behind the panel on the left for any signs of the washer pipe leaking washer fluid onto the radio unit housed in there.

Welcome to VWAF!

The facelift models have most if not all of the pre facelift issues solved... as stated by Mark the Achilles heal of Avant is the rear washer pipework...

The only thing else to mention is as it is MMI 3G there is an update think concerning navigation prompts... if I find thread will link or perhaps another will for you ...

PS Go for Xenons with the inbuilt LED DRL's as they look sooo cool! also the MMI 3G can come with a HDD signified by a joystick in the centre control knob on MMI panel...
