Hi guys; I was toying with selling my Passat 2001 TDi 130 Sport recently, not that I have ever had much trouble with it to be fair, but came to my senses.........well the 2.2 Diesel X Type Jag Estate Sport Premium (no less) got snapped up by someone else before I could buy it (I know its a Mondeo in a posh suit but I like them!).

Anyway, on to the serious stuff. My radio has gone a bit awol recently. Sometimes the volume goes up and down of its own accord, sometimes it 'sticks' on one channel and not even pushing the on/off button will cure it. You have to turn the engine off and key out before it switches off (not while you are driving of course!). Anyone come across this before please? If so whats the cure, other then a large lump hammer. Thanks.

I had a 4motion for a while and the radio in that used to do similar things. Never tried to get to the bottom of it but I did find that if I pulled on the volume control as I turned it, it would usually work ok. I think these types of switches have a metal disc that the control works on and it can get worn through or just mucky so it doesn't make good contact. Whether it's curable or not though I couldn't say.

Funny enough, was going to ask if anyone knows of a straight VW swap which goes straight in, which will pick up the CD unit in the boot as well? Any suggestions or has anyone bought from Ebay or similar and could recommend a link?

I replaced my Gamma unit with a Kenwood DAB radio, USB input, ipod control, SDcards using a USBcard reader, why on earth would you want to play CDs? eighties technology in the 21st century
