    Hi People!
I am new to the forum, and came with a big problem...
I changed my oil today, and wanted to change oil filter as well...
It was so tight that I went back to Halfords and got a wrench with a rubber band, but didn't work either, it was slipping all the time.
Then I got the proper Laser oil Filter Cup, and surprisingly I could not open it.
At a certain point I thought I was pushing the wrong direction but not, I've seen the arrow that shows "45nm" to the right side, so I was doing right.
The filter cup is plastic and has a little wear on it from previous use, but not too much.
Last service I did with Audi, but as it's too expensive, I doing by myself...
I can't imagine how they fasten it so tight??
Isn't it supposed to be really easy to unfasten?

    Thanks

    Hi
Not wanting to imply anything but......I don't think you are undoing the right part if you are using a wrench with band, as all you need is a large socket pref 6 sided. From memory I can't remember the size I think its about 30 mm.
The housing cover is made form black plastic with a large 'O' ring so don't need to be mega tight.

You remove the cover from the top of the engine, and the housing is on the right of the engine block. You remove the black plastic top from the filter housing and change the filter cartidge thats inside.

This is a picture of the housing, but in the photo its on it's side with the top to the right, but you can clearly see the black cover with the hex head.

    Thanks for your reply!
The wrench with the band was my first attempt, the I bought this: Halfords | Laser Oil Filter Cup Wrench 76mm
tried to unfasten, but couldn't, that's where I got more worried.
My filter is simlar to that in the picture but hasn't got the hex head, actually the hole head is where you fix the key to unfasten.
And, there is not much room to engage the socket onto and I'm afraid to break the hole thing...

Whoever put it on probably over-torqued it. The Laser hex oil filter tool with a 1/2" drive and it will easily shift it. Remember to use a smear of fresh oil on the gasket before tightening the new filter.

Hi, should be ant-clockwise for off, do it when the engine is hot, should help you remove it easier, good luck.

its obviously been overtightened last time. thing is, theres an o ring that does the sealing, the tightening is only to stop it coming undone, not to seal it. now, before going further, i would obtain a new one, then use whatever means neccessary to remove the old one. i use a pair of oil filter pliers that will grip the outside and remove even the almost most stubborn ones, but you may break it, but since you already heve a new one, it doesn't matter, plus the new one isn't worn so the proper tool you have purchased will shift it. a 3 legged oil filter remover may also shift it. you might be best taking it to a garage and get them to just loosen it for you, or remove it and pop your new one on for you.

Some of the cheapo cap removers will by time you,ve put the 3/8 drive in it bearly fits over the cap,try welding an old socket on it, and use two types at once,as above dont be affraid of butchering it,buy a new one or go the scrappy, obviousley some dim wit has overtightened it.

Get your engine up to operating temperature.

    It'll come off easier then.
