    Hello,

My 2002 1.4S Golf (with central locking) recently started having problems with the drivers side door.

When I turn the key in the drivers lock all the doors lock fine. When I unlock, all the doors unlock, apart from the drivers door which usually requires a couple more turns of the key to get it to unlock.

Then today, I noticed that when locking/unlocking there is a growly gravelly noise coming from the door lock mechanism.

Pressing the lock button inside locks/unlocks all the doors fine, as far as I can tell.

I'm about to take it to the local VW specialist (Volksworks in Leeds), who are very good and never charge for work that doesn't need doing, but I'm still wondering if this is something I could do myself and save £100 or so.

    Thanks for your help!

    Cheers, Ben.

It could be a failing door lock.
When you are in the car with all the doors closed, is the door open icon on the dash or if you are in the car with all the doors closed and you open the drivers door, does this light come on ?

    Hi Marko,

No lights on the dash when all doors closed. When I open the drivers door, the light comes on.

I noticed last night that if you open the passenger side lock, all doors unlock apart from the drivers, which has to be opened from that side.

    Many thanks for your help!

    Cheers, Ben
