    Hi Guys,

Posted a few threads before and always get great/honest help....

    Audi A6 2006 3.0 TDI Quattro sline, 114,000 miles

Started the car this morning ( got to be the coldest this year) car started fine idel was perfect but I could hear some sort of slight tap.... car drove perfect tho..

On the way home from shopping battery light popped up on the dash and the power steering failed...stopped luckly at my parents and ive just rang the AA.

I went back out to start the car which it did no probs, but there is still a weird rattle sound but not from the engine ...

    Any ideas guys ?

Alternator/fan belt came off but not snapped, AA guy says looking at it all the pulleys are in line and dont look
Distorted, from what he can see.

Only thing we can see are 2 screws on the floor of the engine bay, both different sizes.

Sounds like one of your pulleys/tensioner has gone, had this on mine a few weeks ago see here

I had total failure, batt light, bolts on the engine floor the lot. Sounds like you may have had some lesser form of what i had.

As per post mine was crank pulley at the bottom of the engine and mine failed at 105,500 and is also a 2006.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Sounds very much like the same mate.

Out of interest how much was the repair and did you take it to a dealer?

Had no choice re dealer. Car was immobile on a Sat night so had to be towed to Audi where it could be left securely.

Final bill was £999.15 (£364 labour balance parts and VAT). But a big chunk of the parts was crank pulley and tensioner @ £350 ish, if these havent failed on yours then it will be considerable cheaper i would hope.

Its the access that racks the labour bill up unfortunately.

Fingers crossed for ya for a cheap fix mate.

Cheers fella, hope your right. I have AA vehicle repair cover which I got for my wifes little polo when she needed a run around while she was on maternity, she gave her company car back.

When I got it the AA said they could cover mine also for an extra £5 a month, so I was like what the hell only a fiver, I will soon see how good this is tomorrow when I ring them, the AA mechanic said it should be covered, but reading your hassel mate I have my doubts.....lol

Also reading your post you will never guess what I got replaced about 5 months ago......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Full set of injectors, so that was me 1750 quid out of pocket.
strange isnt it same year car same things happening...

Dont even go there i havent even done the injectors yet its on the to-do. Hopefully your cover is better than mine so you get the result you are looking for.

Let us know how you get on. Good luck.

    Update

Front end off and by the sounds of it crank pulley is knackered too, I mean this is the info I got relayed
From the guy on the desk........

Also mentioned something about the pulleys being held on by 8 bolts but he can only see 4 left with 1 of them
Snapped, and cannot see anyothers, even tho I seen 2 on the engine floor when it broke down..

Iam getting a bad feeling about this....!!!!!
