Don't want to appear negative but....

They are not a good idea as the oil on them has a habit of killing the MAF sensors on VAG cars which are a weak point anyway.

Did you know the stock setup flow very well and very minor gains are to be had be fitting anything else.

I have read that there is only a problem if you over oil the filter. Would still like the

    K&N part No.

    Any other comments welcome.

    I wouldn't bother.
I cant think there would be any performance gain over stock filter.

They were only of any use on old carburettor cars.

Got one fitted to my Mondial with an old Bosch Mech injection and it has made a difference I think, certainly sounds a little louder . So perhaps not just Carb cars.

I also know of one or two later cars (348 and F355) with ECU and EFI that have had them fitted and they do make a difference. I think the MAF in VAG is just a bit of a weak link.
    One German, Two Italian.
    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

i'm totally against these, i dont see any positives to having them fitted and as we all know, vag MAFs are a weak link anyway, introducing oil into the airflow system which need not be there is just asking for trouble.

i remember reading a while back, a study which K&N commisioned, to defend their standing on this item, as they had been accused of damaging MAFS.

the fact they commisioned an 'independent' study, makes me wonder as it is.....

It's definatley up to the individual, I used to have a K&N Pannel filter which I then changed to an induction kit on my Focus before I brough my Passat, It did make a differance to the performannce slightly but I would say if you want a power gain then the filter is only a small addition. The induction kit did give a better throtal responce and the effieincy went up slightly, however that was on a petrol engine.

I know you can get the 130bhp Tdi engine up to 168bhp with induction exhaust and ecu remap but it all depends what you want.

An induction or pannel filter will make the car sound a bit meater but that is sbout it to be honest. But like I said at the beginning its up to the individual. If you do add the K&N filter let me know how you get on as I might get one for mine.
