    Hi there

I am now watching two types of VW Radio and Cassette Player, one is Gamma, the other is Beta.

I perceive that Gamma one needs security code when power is lost, and not sure whether it's the same for Beta one? Anyone knows?

They both need codes, and the only easy way to obtain them is through a VW dealer.

They can be decoded but you need to take them to a specialist for reprogramming.

    ICIC

that's the reason why someone said it's ok when moving from his friend car to his, but someone said code is required, regardless the type of radio.

BTW, decode means remove the code permanently or just reset the code to something like 1111?

Generally speaking, to decode means to decipher or work out the code.

The dealers would find out what your code is and then tell you.
Funnily enough I was reading the handbook of my radio yesreday and it said if you loose your code then VW dealer can get it for you for free. Don't know if that's still the case.

Have a look at post 9 here https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=10373
it tells you the main difference between Gamma and Beta
