I've twice played this game with it... ahh well will do third time... last time I took both seats out and rear bench... then removed carpet... hosed it several times... dried carpet three days... I really thought I nailed it... I checked plenum last time... hosed windscreen and sunroof... checked AC drains, etc...

Gonna jack up car and going to remove plastic covers on on passenger side underside to see if missing bungs... but if that was case water wouldn't water drain away not collect?

So it has to be internal.... water is clear... my screenwash is blue...

Gup I used to work with a guy who was an expert at finding water leaking into cars. What's needed is a process of elimination. Tape up the sunroof seal on the outside (sunroof closed obviously) get inside then ask someone to use a hose with a garden type sprinkler end to simulate rain and concentrate it on the sun roof check for leaks then do the same without the tape to see if there's any leaks. Again do this with windows on the passenger side trying to concentrate on an area at a time. If you want to come to mine on Mon I'm happy to help with this it really is a laborious task but may be the only option

Also check underneath maybe door seals ???

when i had a similar untraceable leak on the 80, we traced it to a seam in the plenum. only after giving it a good scrub to remove the bit of muck could we see it. just where 2 panels join the sealer had cracked and was letting in water.

The only way I have found leaks on my old cars was sit inside it while someone holds hose pipe in 1 area and just let it run for 5 minutes, if no leaks there then onto next area, slow and laborious

Gup, dude - Sorry to read this. Apologies if this has been mentioned but surely it has to be something to do with the Plenum or a/c system?

Had this on the Caddy a few weeks ago and the footwell was full of water. Turned out to be a seal on the bottom of the door. That said as you point out that water is really clear.

    Are your electrics behaving ok?

Would be more than happy to help if i was closer. Hope you get it sorted and keep your chin up mate.

Very sorry to hear. Sunroof probably. I had a lot of water in my front passenger footwell, maybe about 1-2 cm. Lucky for me the car was parked downwards (is that even a Word...?) in a hill so nothing came into the Electronics. vacumed it up and drove to the nearest petrol station With an air pistol. after pushing through massive amount of air in the two drains on for the sunroof. Never happened again... (knock on Wood)

Gups mate, so sorry to hear of your news. I'm sure you'll get it tackled, you seem such a resolute guy.

The only leak I've ever had was caused by the sunroof on an old Ford Granada - sure it must be this on yours.

    Good luck.

Also left side plenum drain looks well hidden so you might have to try to lift the E box to check it properly.....

My fingers are crossed that one of the great suggestions that people have posted turns up the problem & it's a cheap fix. This is all you need after your other problems eh?

Yet again Gup, feeling for you my friend.

At least if you're ever out of work, you'll only need to show a few Audi dealerships your threads on here and they'll give you a job on top dollar immediately; reckon you must know A6s better than most of their own techs by now!!!
