For me what was the most annoying aspect, was Audi USA issued a recall for the rear-wiper water-pipe problem but the UK were about a year later. I actually got a notice about the fix about 2 x weeks after I'd paid an independent Audi specialist to replace my Bluetooth module. I had to think long and hard about buying another Audi after that; chuck in the fact that the owners of affected VAG diesel cars in the states are getting circa 3k each as compensation for the mpg con and nothing for UK owners, makes it even worse.

Yes I do believe there is a crack or issue up front of car allowing water ingress into subframe. The few that have posted they've had the same issue have not had as new a car. shocking a 2009 model has this issue.
Happened to me too over two years ago, as I posted above. Like gupsterg, I've had no issue either since getting mine fixed. Redirect the water from the plenum drain and remove the bottom bungs from the chassis rails for good measure.

If you have a wet carpet, there's a lot of thick foam that will have a lot of water soaked in it. It will have to come out to dry. Took 3 weeks for mine to dry out next to a radiator and with a dehumidifier in the same room. I've done 45,000 miles since then.

As a side issue, I also had water coming in through the high level brake light. After wrestling the boot trim off and removing the light, I discovered that the light wasn't slotted onto it's holding cassette properly. All sorted now.

Glad to see all you guy’s problem solved. I am going to continue monitor the result. I cut a quite big “+” shape on rear carpet, so I actually raised up all the foam by inserting some rubber block to make the air can flow from front to the end. I had used fan to blow air for several nights. So far, it seems pretty dry from where I can touched. Front carpet also been flipped up so the air can flow through to the whole place. Fortunately, I drive the most time of this car. No one on the passenger side really, except one of my daughter sit on rear seat for 5 minutes to school in the morning. Anyway, she can’t touch the floor when she sit. So, she is fine with that J. I am going to keep it open for quite a few months until I think the problem really go away.

This car had been with me for more than two years and only 50,000 miles so far. The problem came as one morning I heard the sound like water flows back forth when I break or accelerate. But I can’t see the water. The carpet was made so water resisted and water can’t penetrate directly. The only place shows moisture was two place around carpet locking buttons. But that's enough made me nervous. I was thinking how much water can make that much of sound. It sounds like a half fish tank water swing! After I opened the carpet, I saw water all the place and I used vacuum to suck the water. And it's a lot! Including squeezed the sponge again and again, I got at least a gallon from it. At that moment, I still didn’t realized the water was still underneath. I cleaned the plenum chamber so I thought the problem should go away, since I saw water flow down to the floor freely, everything just looks fine. Then the problem comes back again and again, as long as another hard rain or even snowing, it got wet. I thought I was still blind behind the real problem. Until when I pry up the bung and I saw water. Ha, then I started to tested and isolated problem one by one and I stuck at the last place which I think that place should never let the water in for any reason. I went back to online for searching answer and I found all you guy’s posts. 3,4 years ago.

It’s just interesting to read all the picture in the opposite way. Every time I have to stop and flip the image from right to left in my head. LoL.

Gup, you did a great job on all these and pictures. It is just ironic until we did all these debugging, we still don’t know where exactly the car fail like this. Maybe one day I will use a small camera to sneak into the chamber to see if I can find anything. Good jobs everyone!

When I pulled the carpet out of the car, I used old folded blankets and towels in the doorbell to cover up the ducting, so I could still drive.
