Before viewing video look at this image and read below...

    So use MVB 01 03 07 in module 2...

Note 1 (red lines) Torq.Con.slip is the difference between engine revs and transmission revs...

Note 2 (blue line) Torq.Con.Clutch status, without going in depth from what I've been reading explained below ...

TC Open = when Torq.Con is free wheel allowed greater variation in slip (also when tran.cold)...

TC Reg = when Torq.Con being regulated to only slip between a range... highest figure I noted was 160 /min in Torque converter slip data window 4 of MVB 07

TC Locked = when Torq.Con is locked fully, no slippage, this occur when engine speed & transmission speed match...

Again all of this is kept as simple so I can make sense to myself & you ...

Besides the revs/sounds in video as to what occurring in driving style (green/yellow lines), brake light switch window will show BRAKE when I brake..

    Right heres the video...

A good and current thread Link:- VWVortex.com - Phaeton ATF Concern (Please Help!)

Read & absorb above... it is same tranny in that thread... good info...

Now if you have torque converter issue then slippage will be great in TC reg mode...

We can log Measuring block #7, which will show TCC status in field #3 (open, control, or closed) as well as TCC slip in field #4 (RPM difference). For the 5-speed, VW TSB specified to replace the TC if the slip was over 120 RPM in control or over 10 RPM when closed.
Link post:- VWVortex.com - Phaeton ATF Concern (Please Help!)

I know guy is talking about a 5 speed box but the principle is the same... the thread is on a 6HP-19 Link:- VWVortex.com - Phaeton ATF Concern (Please Help!)

I found this a good read as well... Link:- HowStuffWorks "How Torque Converters Work"

Ok, don't know where to start from....

I called an Audi dealership that was about 100kms or so away from me (furthest). They gave me a good price for oil+filter change so decided to take it. It was 2 hours notice BTW for the booking.
    This is what they've found:

    1.Requires 6 glow plugs $626
    2.Front discs and pads $1050
    3.front and rear undertray broken

    4.transmission sump bent upwards $1500
As for this they said that the previous owner probably hit a big rock and it damaged the transmission oil sump. They cannot say whether it has any effect on the operation of the gearbox itself. But they do recommend fixing that.
They said that they'll replace the sump, filter, oil, gasket and a few more things as far as i can remember. They also said that the tranny isn't showing any signs wear.

    NUMBER 5. Pulsation dampner!
They told me this caused the REVS to fluctuate while stationary and while driving.
It costs a staggering $120 including fitting.

Well there you are Gup, go on and change that and the fluctuation should stop immediately... only $120...

I know for my VIN there is an issue with the crankshaft dampener/pulley... when I viewed mine it all looked good...

Just so we are on the same page of the book... look at below photo... is the pulsation dampener the big black pulley (outlined in pink)...

I've been looking all over the internet and cannot find a single picture of the pulsation dampener thingy. The Audi technician told me a rubber seal has deteriorated..or the dampener thingy is leaking oil.. thats as much as i remember. I cannot confirm that whats circled in pink is that actual part. It might be... Sorry i can't be of much help. When i do take my Audi back i will try and take a few photos and also get more details about it including part numbers etc....
You might have better luck asking someone that understands how pulsation dampeners work and where they are located....

Gonna continue checking the net.... like a pirate!

    Hi chap ,

    Any update?

Today I was able to make more sense of the TPI/TSB... Link:- ZF 6HP19A tiptronic gearbox (A6 3.0 TDI Quattro) - Page 2

So from understanding firstly check serial number of gearbox if it need update software & oil... next it seems MY05 eg 2004 cars are more likely to need the SW & oil change... next point is to get MVBs via VCDS/Diags done, then decide oil/next step...

13 hour shifts = no time to take a ****... lol to put it in a rude manner....Can't wait to get some free time to attempt to change the GPs. The glow plugs have finally arrived... ... ... 13 years later..... ... When cars don't run on fuel anymore... ... haha
They came bundled up all together. When i took the package i heard metal of metal knocking noises. Is that ok packaging? Would it cause any damage to them? All of them together in bubble wrap.

Should be ok, not ideal package, mine were individually packed in cardboard boxes... quick check you can do before fitting with multimeter...

    • Use an ohm meter to check the resistance between the thread and the connector.
    • Resistance should be below 6 ohms or so. It may be very small (under 1 ohm).
    • High resistance or infinite resistance indicates a bad plug.

Great thread chaps - hope things are looking dandy now Cwizard. Needless to say I'm now crapping myself at some of the potential issues!!

The pink circle in the photo above is the crank pulley for the auxillary belt. I know because I've had to replace it! My aux belt snapped at 100k miles. Also had to replace one of the guide pulleys and the tensioner pulley.

Did you get the pulsation damper fitted in the end? Was it on the fuel line?
