    Hi

Trying to work this out, online info says a second hand car had last change of keeper in March 2012. Would this have been when car was sold as part ex to the trade, or when the last owner bought the car? Getting confused, please help!!

When last reg keeper sold vehicle to trade. PNC entry would then read "in trade" as well, until trader sells on to customer and informs DVLA

    Was it via HPI?

Iirc and afaik I think when dealers take a car in they dont go onto the registered keeper but they get the v5 in the dealer name until its sold on again.

So I'm guessing on that basis the previous owner bought the car at that point.

Edit - Richard beat me too it!

Thanks but sounds like 2 different answers! Either the car was last owned for 8 months, or it has been in the trade for 8 months. Data was from an iPhone app 'mycarcheck' but unsure how it collects data.

I thought it sounded like two different answers too, wasn't sure if it was just me being thick! A thread on another forum (google search) implies to me that the car was sold to a new keeper in March 2012 but that they have since got rid of it. Which begs the question of why someone would get rid of a car after such a short period of ownership.

Though there are genuine reasons - eg. I bought a V6 Passat whilst doing some work on my diesel Passat (didn't really need to, just wanted to take the pressure of getting jobs done quickly, it was very cheap at £425, and just the excuse to play with a V6 for a short while!) and sold it on for £600 a couple of months later. Didn't really make any profit but covered the cost of changing the insurance as well as the extra fuel and had an absolute blast for 2 months!

When we sold cars the dvla were informed we had them but it never showed up as a change of ownership. There was/is a box on the dvla form to say that it is 'in between'. Otherwise a car would gain a new owner everytime it went through the trade which would be daft.

Yes I am guessing that the previous owner did buy the car in March '12 and didn't keep it long.

Though it is useful background knowledge to have it doesn't entirely concern me, there can be a million reasons why a car is kept for a certain time.

I'll see how things pan out on the test drive tomorrow...

quite often because a major fault shows up and they trade it asap to save fixing it.
obviously many other reasons as well, redundancy, didn't like it etc..

Straw poll then - would you be inclined to dismiss it altogether given owner history, or take the test drive and see how it feels? The car would be supplied with a years Toyota guarantee (got it through a franchised dealer)....

i would go and look, test drive it hard and see what its like. best if you can take a computer and scan it though, just to see.
of course, a car thats been owned for 10 years and lovingly looked after could also have been traded due to a potentially expensive fault so there's no telling.
