I know this is going to sound daft but im not entirely sure my 2.0tdi 140 is a 140.
i had the 140 b7 and my b8 does not feel as quick....dont know if its how the engine is setup on the b8 or what but it does not have the same hit.
ive heard that you can get a 120.........which i hope i dont have so im trying to figure out what bhp mines is going by how much tax i pay.............i pay £135 for my tax so is this the 140 or 120.

    Thanks and sorry ha ha

In your spare wheel well there will be a sticker with a figure in KW on it.

Put that figure into Convert kW to hp - Conversion of Measurement Units and it will tell you the BHP.

This sort of post normally raises its head when people buy a new car with the same engine as the previous. This is only my opinion and I could be totally wrong, but there are at least two factors that can make the performance of your new car feel worse than the previous. The first is the size of the car, as new cars tend to be bigger and heavier than the previous model. Audi sometimes compensate for this by providing an extra couple of BHP, but not all the time. The second is the engine itself. At a guess, your B7 probably had upward of 80-90k on the clock, where as your B8 is likely to be less than 40k. If this is the case, your B7 engine has had more life battered out of it than your B8, so will be looser. With time, you will receive similar power as your B8 clocks up the miles. My A4 now has 40+k on the clock and I am already noticing the difference compared new 2.0T's I have driven as courtesy cars.

I'm pretty sure by now Audi are using 16v engines.

The 2.0TDI engine has 16 valves - in both B8 and B7 variants.

Maybe you are thinking of the older 1.9 PD engine from earleir models?

    I agree - iirc all 1.9's had 8v.

I had a 07 plate alhambra 2.0tdi 8v and touran 2.0tdi 16v,even though alhambra is heavier it would kill the touran from standstill and on the move. The may never used 8v engines on audis but they did on passats. Now how can I confuse a 1.9 and 2.0 engines.

    1. The B8 is bigger and is going to be heavier that the B7 which will make it feel slower
    2. The common rail engine in the B8 will have less turbo lag and the torque is spread more evenly over the rev range rather than all coming in at once with a hit. The older engine will have more of a turbo hit that will make the car feel faster than it actually is.
