wyndham, if once having done the check that matthewgdavis suggests (it's happened to me too), you find you do still need to get into the tailgate it's quite an easy job to do. There are no plastic clips that break, just metal spring clips.

With the tailgate open, the window glass trim comes off first. The clips are around the outside of the tailgate. It's a little awkward up the sides as the direction of the clips requires a fair bit of distortion of the trim. They are sort of 90deg to the direction that the trim comes off. The top clips are much easier once the sides are unclipped.

Then the main back panel cones off. Unclip the screw covers, remove the handle screws and handle, then the rest of the screws. They are all around the outside (none hidden anywhere else). Then unclip the trim using your fingers around the outside. Finally ease the trim downwards, gently leveraging the few clips out that run along below the window.

At least this is how I do it on mine!

Refitting is the opposite of removal but pay attention to the upper trim side clips that can get mangled and/or scratch the paintwork if you're not cautious.
