01119 gear recognition signal

Had this fault code when I scanned tonight, any ideas ? Done some googling and it seems to be a bit of an enigma and can occur due to a number of issues.

i have recently noticed an occasional hesitation when accelerating up a hill like the engine loses power then drops down a gear and accelerates not sure if this could be related ?

I dont know the answer as for exact cause, but I can add that mine had this code come up intermittent since I had the car and it stayed for years even after box was refurbed, new oil, etc.
What I noticed it comes up during long drive (possibly overheating?) and gear display letter flickers which throws the code. Can occasionally go in to limp mode, but after restarting engine it goes back to normal.
If you ever find out do post back your findings...
