I have just been given this car which had the starter motor removed. I replaced it with a good one and now I cannot get it to start. The motor turns but all I get is smoke from the exhaust. It has been standing for a couple of years.

Is there an ecu on this model? and where is it located?

you need to replace the fuel filter air filter and get some clean fuel. Test the glow plugs by removing them and see if they heat up properly. If not replace them. Don't be tempted to use easystart. There's no ECU is it turbodiesel?

Thanks for the reply. It is a turbo diesel. Is there an electric fuel pump, there is no sound of one? I will test the resistance of the glow plugs.

no electric pump it sucks up the diesel from the tank. you could try to start it with a clean plastic bottle of diesel and a piece of tubing

It runs now. I hot wired the glow plugs and bled the injectors. The glow plugs can now be used normally. Thanks for your patience.
