Struggle? Pah! You'll plough on through anything you meet!

I haven't for the past 3.5 years on the same setup.

On Sunday Nov 4 I was very slowly driving my A6 TDi 3.0 Le Mans Quattro Auto at 2 - 3 mph down a 1 in 6 snow / ice covered pass in the Lake District and gently brought the car to a halt to allow 50 yards gap from the car in front, put the parking brake on and transmission in park, and was surprised and a bit alarmed as the car slowly started to slide down the hill. Fortunately there was a kerb so gently steered into it and came to a halt.

My tyres (summer) Continental Sport Contact 3 255/35 19, but now have set of 4 Continental Winter Contact tyres on order for my peace of mind.

On my way down I saw one car that hadn't managed to plough it's way through the wall it met and it was on its roof.

Yeah, the fwd A6's aren't the best in snow - worse still for having 19's by all accounts. Get some winter tyres on would be my advice & you should be far more sure footed.

I've since found 2 quite interesting videos comparing performance of Continental all season and winter tyres. Here are the links:
Winter Tyres v Summer Tyres: the Truth! - Auto Express - YouTube and Continental Tyres: Winter tyres braking test (Audi A4) - YouTube . Has made me think I should put them on my wife's car too.

I wouldn't even suggest 19's on a fwd in the snow.

Best gonig right down to 17's and sticking winters on like you have Paul. It will be interesting to see how my A3 performs with 17's.

Yep, that's the best advice, 17" steel wheels or alloys with winter tyres as Chris says. You shouldn't have any problems then.
