After asking about engine swap. decided to change rings. just done a compression test and all cylinders are showing nearly 200psi. lowest was 185. this doesn't seem low to me and they all got to that pressure straight away. trying to cure the smoking.

just a thought the would the cat store oil that would cause the blue smoke? might remove it tommorow and see.

not changed the rings yet. thought I'd check witch cylinder was the problem.Even removed plugs 1 at a time to see if it smoked less. no difference i could see.
When I had the head off the piston bores looked fine with no lip at the top but i could move the pistons back & forth a few mil

What year is it? Is there any slap? A set of rings even a set of oil rings might help. If there was mayo there may have been a blown head gasket so maybe get the head checked ?

You can change all the rings and shells when you have the head off for testing! The oil ring comment was a bit throwaway sorry, rings aren't that expensive. Did you regrind the valves when you done the seals?
