2.0 TDI Not Starting

Evening All,

My car wouldn’t start last week and thanks to AudiDoDis I have had a VCDS scan done.

The car is a 2006 2.0 TDI with around 120k on the clock. Owned the car for about a year and the only real problem has been a power steering pipe leak.

A6_Chris will be along soon to post up the VCDS report (I cant receive private messages yet) and thinks it is a dead battery. The MMI shows a full battery but ive read that this shouldn’t be trusted.

I have also seen that its not just as simple as replacing the battery (there is some circuit or code attached to the battery) so how would I go about changing the battery.

I would also aappreciateit if you guys could have a look over the VCDS and let me know if anything looks wrong.

If you are not replacing with an Audi genuine/not in list and it is the same power rating just change the serial number in coding and it will think it has a new battery...

Will I need a VCDS cable to do this and will it accept any serial number?

Yep you will need VCDS or coding device...

The module does not know what battery it has ie brand/serial...

Buy coding module you are just telling it what set of parameters to use concerning cut-off states, etc...

I will probably go with Bosch S5 ... when I do replace...

So I'm assuming you've had your battery tested it needs replacing?

Only reason why I say when I got my car it seemed to say low battery every so often... I recharged it fully... then did MMI firmware update...

I read stuff saying MMI FW update will update software in concerned modules...

Then I changed serial number in module 4 times then back to original (as it will remember last 3 battery's coding's) and still using same battery all is well...

So ive read the VCDS output and have searched the forum to get the following info, dose it look like im on the right track?

Am I right in thinking I have the BLB engine? Does this have the oil pump shaft issue?
The ABS - Error code 00532 is this caused by the flat battery, VCDS self test or is it a problem I will need to look at?
Control Head – Error code 02095 – Component Protection? What is the control head?
Auto HVAC – Error code 01592 – Could this be why my AC randomly blows out hot air from time to time?
Media Player 1 – Error code 00468 – Need to run an optical test via VCDS and see what the result is.
Central Conv – Error code 01505 – Had a rear bulb changed last month, would this be the error code for this and if so how do I clear it?
Parking Brake – Error code 01316 – VCDS test or do I need to look at this?
Battery Regul – Error codes 02272, 02273, 02276, 02274, 02277 – Battery is the problem.
There is no Address 77 (telephone prep) is this an issue as I have a cradle in the car?
Do I need an ECU or MMI update (are the version numbers in the VCDS output)?

Have I missed anything?

They could be unrelated or intermittent...

Scans are good as starting point... but you can draw wrong conclusions as well if not read correctly...

So usually how I use my scans is i) scan car ii) clear faults iii) scan car see what comeback again

Besides battery going flat and car not starting you've had no other issues?
