    Hello everyone

    I am a newbie to site. I am interested in buying a new car. As i presently drive a 4x4 i went for a test drive yesterday at a local dealers in a Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro S line S tronic in Oolong grey. Nice looking car and i was impressed with smooth changing gearbox and the ride was not as harsh as i thought it would be with the lower suspension. Any views on this car, pros/cons and what to look for. It was registered in May 2012. Thanks everyone

    Anything in particular you want to know?

    I think on this forum you are generally going to get positive responses; most posters are either owners or potential owners. You're not going to go far wrong with a 6 month old Audi.

    Nice spec car also. How much is the asking price? Remember there are heavy discounts on new cars at the moment, so you might not be saving as much as you think over new.

    If the 4x4 to normal car change is worrying you, I made the same step from volvo xc60 to A6 avant.

    I haven't once missed the high driving position benefits of the 4x4 body (or the fuel consumption and cross wind effects that went with it). I am getting far better long distance comfort and economy with the audi.

    I do occasionally miss the ground clearance as i am along farm tracks etc now and then. The Sline is not particularly low for kerbs and speed bumps or underground ramps etc, but no good if you ever "off road".

    I also occasionally miss the masses of boot space a tall wide 4x4 offers, though the A6 is not exactly a small boot.

    I occasionally miss the massive mirrors too mainly when parking in tight places.

    Overall I had high expectations for the A6 and it has exceeded them all. I wont be going back to a 4x4 in the foreseeable future.
    S6 Black Avant: Tech advanced, Matrix, Keyless entry, Sunroof, Speed limit display, Tow bar, Rear camera
    Golf GTI (for the Mrs) BMW M140i (for work and fun )

    Hi robbyg. Thanks for your reply. yes i currently driving a hyundai santa fe which is a nice car but found it a bit cumbersome. As long as i can get 2 suitcases in car thats all i need boot wise and don't do any towing. Want to go back to a comfortable saloon car but still have the 4 wheel drive as this morning we had severe hailstones that covered the road with 2" of ice balls and my son could not get on to estate with his rear wheel drive

    Hi Colin

    They're great cars, and you'll probably be very happy with one, but:
    - there's plenty of nearly new ones around, so don't pay over the odds: try the Audi UK used car locator, which allows you to filter by distance, age, max. price, spec etc. No point going outside the official Audi used channels for <1 year old cars;
    - if you are at all fussy about seat comfort, get sports seats (standard on S-line) or better;
    - try one at speed on poor motorway surfaces and see if the road noise/thrum annoys you. If it does, be careful about wheel and tyre choice, and if possible take a decent drive in the car you're actually looking to buy.

    Hi a8toa6convert
    Have been looking online on autotrader and Audi sites for a while now. The one i test drove was S Line with sports seats. Only had a short test drive which i found very smooth and comfortable so will take your advice and have a longer test drive before deciding
