Read loads of places that i shouldn't buy an ebay lead but i did it anyway. when i connect it all up (vag-com 409) and test it i get port is ok but interface not found. i've checked the ports, disabled firewalls and virus scanners and checked irq conflicts. I honestly dont know what it could be apart from the lead
    any help would be greatful.
ps its a serial cable and i did try it with the ignition on lol

Is it a serial or USB?

The serial cables are usually plug n play.

Check the com port assigned to the cable in you PC's 'Device Manager' is in the range 1 to 4, and that the same com port is used by vagcom.
