    Hi all
not sure if anyone can help but here goes, i have fitted an aftermarket rear view camera to my car and all works fine great picture whilest ignition is on and engine not running, as soon as i start the engine i get lines accross the screen and unnable to see a thing.
i have put it down to the fact that i have taken the power 12v feed for the camera from the reversing light and that being on a canbus line is therefore pulsing power to the camera which causes noise on the video feed. if i am wrong please let me know, i therefore intend to take a live feed from a permanant 12v on the wiper moter as i am told there is an ignition live there somewhere?? and install a relay so that the camera will recieve the power from the wiper but switched with the reversing light feed, the problem is where do i find an earthing point on the tailgate? or can i find the earth going to the wiper and use this? any help would be appreciated.

    John

You're not wrong. I took my camera feed from the AUX 12V socket and works from there without lines.
If you use a body earth there's several nuts there with negatives going to them. However took my negative from the AUX 12V socket too.

What head unit have you got?

I have the erisin Chinese unit can't remember model number but its pretty good, have you got the estate or saloon it's just I can't get any more cables thru the rubber gromit from tailgate to car that's why I want to use the feed to wiper motor just don't think the tailgate is earthed at all, I could be wrong.

    Tailgate is earthed AFAICR
    I've got the Estate.
Started with a Chinese Waywell with supplied number plate light camera, then moved onto JVC after a few months. My Chinese SatNav never locked onto satellites, although shown. And the CD eject stopped, but it would load. Then the number plate camera became iffey, when warm worked when cold not... gave up and replaced with a Maplin

I've got the same lines problem on my estate so I've fitted noise suppressor and that helps a bit There're still lines across the screen but not so visible but now light in the camera stops working when cold and set to auto so I've to torn lights off and on again to get it working.

I have to say I am pleased with mine it's the model with DVB-T which works well I have to say the only bug that I have is the screen is not that sensitive to touch which when driving and trying to forward to next track can be a bit of a nightmare and sunlight shining on screen makes it near to impossible to see other than that its all good, I will have a go at wiring a relay into the tailgate at the weekend and see what happens and hope the is an earth somewhere there. One bit of advice tho to anyone wiring camera in tailgate is make sure you close the tailgate before testing or you will get a blue screen of the sky lol I was looking at the picture thinking what's wrong with it now then realised the hatch was up lol

Its on left hand side not far from reversing light, it's a bolt with wires connected to it, that's what I've used.

I deal I will check it out at the weekend when I will have time to wrestle with the tailgate plastic trim, it comes off really easy but trying to get it back on is a nightmare.

If I remember correctly, there was a filter available on ebay to cure this exact problem - have a search on the 'ebay sat-navs' threads
