    Hi,

My wife is looking at getting the above car, with 20k on the clock, i'm on my 3rd VW, but never had a polo or indeed anything newer than my Passat! Is there anything that I/my wife should look out for in general before buying it?

    Advice/ideas would be appreciated muchly.

Make sure the mileage is correct/not clocked as the only reason for a BM is to save fuel due to lots of miles driven - BM's have to be driven a certain way and cover plenty of miles each day as this helps the dpf etc work properly.

DPF's don't like stop/start traffic or pops down to the shops etc - they prefer longer motorway journeys in order to heat up properly. It used to be ok when you could get just a TDi without dpf but all new ones come with now.

If Dpf diesel is not suitable for your driving requirements then go with a small petrol engine and drive it economically.

BM polos had very light wheels and specific tyres to give better mpg - check for them as they werent cheap and different tyres hit the mpg a bit.

Thanks for your reply, the intended use is 50 mile round trips 5 days a week on a dual carriageway, so should be okay. Might take a few long journeys to clear it out. I'll try to find out what tyres are on it, and what they should be.

    Thanks again
