    Hi all

Driveshaft stripped at g/box end, lost all drive on roundabout. Its T28 1.9 85 2005 with 74k on, like brand new with loads gen vw extras etc always spoilt rotten, looked after really well and never worked hard. Bill for repair is gonna be £500-600 and really I should get the other side done too on safety grounds, or simply flog my beloved T5. I cant have the missus and kids stranded like that, nor me again for that matter and never mind stranded, endangered, losing all drive with no warning! Luckily was 200m from Vasstech, our local vw specialist who kindly towed me in within 10 mins!
After noon I had a horrendous 15min telephone conversation with a complete a-hole at customer care who i would have definitely one punch laid clean out cold had we been face to face.
Where do i go with VW, do I bother or just sell my T5 to recoup my money, dont desperately need it, ktm can go on a trailer and camping is fun in a car too, VW didnt seem bothered at all. Do I go to Vosa?
    I really do consider that:
    a) VW have known there is a problem with the driveshafts for quite some time and failed to tsb or recall,
    b) VW have knowingly endangered me and my family with a defective vehicle,
    c) This VW quality vehicle is about to cost me another £1200 and I will then have to sell my 'quality' VW, and honestly after that cust care conversation i wouldnt buy another, and next year I was up for a new air breathing diesel car.

btw its already had (some under warranty):
    1. steering uj
    2. handbrake
    3. DMF
    4. rear bottom arm and abs sensor
    5. 3x air mass
    6. stuck egr, never diagnosed by vw, watching boost is sooooooo difficult lol!!
    7. 2 sets arb drop links

sick as a dog!!! shoulda bought a T4 lol!!!

Any help or advice would be great, sorry for rambling (or ranting lol!).

    Thanks again.

I have seen plenty of instances of driveshaft spline failure, mainly being blamed on lack of grease or cheap steel. I have inspected the parts and can confirm that this is NOT the case. The splines from the driveshaft dont extend far enough into the flange piece that runs in the gearbox. The flange has approx 2 inch length of spline socket available, the driveshaft only engages about 1inch of this length. The new driveshaft was longer, this appears to be a design/manufacturing fault and I am amazed its lasted 74k, I can imagine these being stripped at 20k miles, the steel must be very good quality. Have taken some pics so back to VW Customer Care and Vosa!

    Hope this helps someone!
