hi, ive got the same car/engine and have wondered the same. At the moment i have a Ramair kit for induction and a stainless fast flow exhaust, these make it seem quicker and definately more aggressive sounding. Bearing in mind that these engines dont offer a lot of power even after ecu remapping in comparison to other 1.8t's. Im waiting for the right price on a remap as it only increases the power to 210hp max. If you can get the bits and spare the cash, ive been told the best upgrade is a K04 turbo and bigger injectors. Ive not done that due to a high mileage engine.

If you get it done, pm me with the results.

The 150 Bhp engine is dead slow even with a remap, i have 2x 1.8TQS avants, one has a custom remap and a new ko4 turbo off the 190Bhp audi a4 b6 and it's slipping the clutch, none feels too fast ! That engine should be 2.0T from the start, at least it would have had a little more torque ! One thing when tuning the longitudinal platform is the cable throttle, to get real gains you either need a later golf ECU from a drive by cable or get a chip from the states- the yankees were at it long time before the brits tinkered with the old 1.8T lump ! To get real gains from the engine you would need a GT28 and saab red injectors + a really good map. You will need new rods, pistons and more but 300 Bhp is in reach !
