when did you last do a lights check. one may have gone a while back and the other has just failed which is when you noticed it. i have seen this happen a few times. i have even had a customer come to me with a new headlamp switch for his fiesta, which i duly fitted. this did not cure the faulty lights, but fitting 2 bulbs did, which he found strange. if you have recently checked they both did indeed work, then it could be the switch that has failed, but i would check the bulbs first.
when i buy a new car as a keeper, i usually change all the bulbs as a matter of course, as its so annoying when they fail one after the other, and fitting new means a few years until i have to change one.

Funny, my wife's 2009 fiesta did the same thing both dipped beam headlight bulbs out at the same time, well at least thats how it seemed. The other funny thing was that both remote key fob batteries also failed at the same time, but not at the same time as the headlight bulbs.
