    VW Touran 2.0 FSi

Hi, Yesterday the coolant level warning light came on!!! When I stopped and left it for a short time a small puddle appeared underneath. so I put it up on the ramps and removed the under tray. I started the car and ran it for 10 minutes or so and once turned off a drip started to appear from the oil filter housing, this then started to drip every 10 seconds or so. I have tried to see where it is coming from but cannot see beyond the filter housing.

Has anybody had this issue and could tell me the way to solve it? Or even, what is above the filter housing that maybe leaking coolant?

Any information would be greatfully received!!

    Thanks in advance.....

    Chris

not sure about this engine but alot of vw engines use an oil cooler that is built into the filter housing, if it is like this then you need to check all the water pipes that lead to it to start with.
maybe the cooler has a crack on it ?

That is a good point!! I have found an illustration of the engine on the internet and it looks like it may have an oil cooler of sorts above or attached to the filter housing. All I need now is to get in to view around the area, which is easier said than done... Any hints or tips on this would be great.

its been a while since i have done one of these and it was on an old abf 16v but i think the filter itself holds the cooler on ? or maybe some kind of clip or nut when the oil filter is off ?
that is if its a hanging filter and not a cartridge type ?
ive never worked on a touran so you will have to pin your hopes on some better instructions from someone who has :/

Well, i've had the car up on the ramp and had a look as best as I could and am pretty sure it is coming from the Oil Filter Housing Assembly. I think it is seeping from the housing itself (Maybe the unit is cracked) or between the seals mating these parts to the block. Has anyone ever had the Housing Assy crack before?? I've ordered a new Assy and will attempt to strip this down and hopefully trace the leak and solve this issue.

Still looking for any help or advise!!!

    Regards
    Chris
