    The UK MK7 brochure is now available;

    http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/assets/c...i-brochure.pdf

    The old 122PS engine is still available, some weights are still TBA.

    However, for models that have weights, the weight saving is only 25kg.

    Yes the weight saving is nowhere near the 100 kg mentioned elsewhere. For example the weight of a mk6 1.6TDi Match 5 door is 1348 kg. The new brochure gives the weight of a 1.6 TDi SE 5 door as 1325 kg - a massive saving of 23 kg. Much worse are the figures for the 2.0 TDi - mk 6 5 dr is 1381 kg and mk 7 is 1384 kg. That's an increase of 3 kg! It will be interesting to see the weights of the petrol models.

    Of course it could be that there is a mistake in the figures - not unusual for VW brochures!

    It's not completely up though by the looks of things, not all of the options are in there yet.

    Does look good though. I just wish I had the £20,000+ to buy one!

    Don't know how you work that one out !

    The new Golf build quality easily matches that of the new A3, both inside and out, but the Golf is much better equipped. Compare equally specced cars and the Golf is at least £1000 cheaper. Take the GT version of the new Golf, for example: auto lights/wipers, parking sensors front and rear, DAB radio, sat nav, all as standard !

    I have a 2012 A3 Sportback 2.0TDI SE at the moment and I have priced up an similar new A3 and a Golf VII and with similar extras to my current A3 it would work out around £2,000 more for the A3. I also agree with you comment about the quality of the Golf VII. Whilst I was on holiday in Germany recently I went to AutoStadt in Wolfsburg and was able to look at and sit in both a new A3 and a Golf VII and I would say they are both of similar quality. Personally I also prefer the facia layout of the Golf with it's buttons around the radio and the touch screen to the pop-up screen and tunnel mounted MMI of the A3.

    I think its a tad overpriced and too close to the A3, although the spec is quite good.

    Anyone else spot they changed the figures at the last minute? S got cheaper but SE and GT increased

    Clever bit of marketing. Say it's starting price is lower, but increase the price of the models people will actually buy.

    Silver dash trim of the SE is absolutely HORRID

    Just spec'd one as best i can to my Mk6 spec and its come out £2.5k more than the RRP of 3 years ago. I thought £19k was a lot then, £21.5k is silly. And given mine is probably worth £9k then i won't be sheeling out £12k to get something that offers me nothing extra. In fact the fascination to make cars bigger at each generation is getting silly, the Mk 6 would barely fit through a UK single garage door aperture (you need to fold the mirrors), this one will be very tight

    Kia and Hyundai will be rubbing their hands I think.
