    Hi
I have an Avant TDi 170 with 235/45/17 tyres.

I have some good michelin winter tyres which I would like to fit. However, these are 205/65/15. I can get some suitable wheels for this, and the ride will obvs be more bouncy, but has anybody any knwoledge of what fitting somewjhat thinnner wheels will do to the handling?

    Thanks

IF they fit you're model, then the thinner the better for winter driving. I'm no expert on wheel fitment though, plenty on here who can help though.

By the way Aston, I notice you have the 170 Avant, so I'm guessing it's a facelift Avant? It wouldn't happen to be an SE version would it?

Check the edge of your drivers door and you'll see a silver sticker or plate attached to it, the one that gives you tyre inflation pressures. It will also show you what size of tyres you can fit to your specific model of car including winter tyres (marked M+S).

Worth checking as insurers generally don't bother if you fit what the manufacturer recommends, but they may need notified it the wheels aren't what Audi suggests.

I'll be amazed if they fit.....pretty sure the smallest diameter you'll need is 16 inch. 15's are tiny and I doubt they'll fit over the brake disc and calipers. Also I'm not 100 % sure but I'm guessing the tyres are not the right rolling diameter anyway.....must be a maximum of 3% different to original spec tyres.

No no, nothing to worry about. It was just that one of the Moderators (A6 Chris) is building the ultimate owners guide for A6 C6 owners & you may be able to help. It will be an ultimate guide for any of us A6 owners who need info and also for prospective owners. He's looking for 5 photos of each model (dead on front end, dead on rear end, both sides & one of the MMI related stuff in the glovebox. We've got most models sorted, but we're really struggling to find a facelift Avant SE and a facelift Allroad. Would you by any chance mind emailing these 5 simple shots to Chris to help us all out?

    Thanks,
    Paul.
