    Hi there,

I have recently bought a 2002 1.6 A4 saloon 75K miles from a dealer (not a VAG Main dealer). When I bought the car it had an orange warning lamp (outline of an engine, I think it means the engine management) illuminated. The saleman showed me that the car had been serviced but explained away the lamp by saying they were not a main dealer and didn't have the equipment to turn this off. The lamp stayed stayed on for about 2 weeks and went off mysteriously a few days ago. I did notice on 2 or 3 occasions during the time that the lamp was illuminated that the engine didn't idle very well and it cut out a few times while waiting in traffic. This hasn't happened since the lamp went out. I have a limited engine/gearbox warranty from the garage I bought the car from and if there is an issue I would like to get it sorted before this runs out.

Should I take the Car to a main dealer and get them to run a diagnostic on the car? or has it rectified itself now that the light has gone out.

    Question Number 2:

The drivers door handle has developed a bit of a rattle, I'm not sure if this was there all along or what but the metal body coloured outer bit is loose. The rattle is not annoying but I am afraid it will fall off. What is the correct way to tighten this without resorting to super glue?!!

    Thanks for any advice received

    Hi
I have had starting prolems lately Lucky I have down loaded vag com ver311 an old version but it works at reading fault codes .I have fixed all problems myself you can get a lead from ebay, if you have a lap top down load the free version of vag com you can then read all faults. If you cannot most good garages can for about 30 to 45 pounds.
Your ICON is telling you there is a fault code present on the ecu it will reset
but may come back later If the car is on warrenty get the codes and go back to the dealer. I hope all turns out OK.

I would get a dealer or local independent to print of the ecu report then inform the garage you bought the car from what the salesmen said and get them to put it the fault right. (not just rest the ECU!!)

the engine management light comes on for a reason and the salesman knows that you don't just reset it!!

If they don't play ball, its a trading standards issue as they have sold it knowing there is a fault..thats what the light is for.

Hope this helps and keep us informed.
