HI, I have a very bad reception on the radio, especially radio 2, in other cars this is normally really good, there is a aftermarket radio/ CD player fitted - JVC 680
was wondering if someone has got rid of the amplifier when replacing the factory unit. the question is, where will the amplifier normally be found. there is no roof ariel, - is it in the rear windows ? thanks in anticipation.

    hi
i just copied this from another vw forum

    Aerial systems
The diversity aerial system in the Touran consists of the following components:
t A radio navigation system or a radio unit
t The aerials in the rear side windows
t The aerial selection control unit -J515-, only in conjunction with radio navigation system “RNS MFD 2” with CD player for navigation
t The aerial amplifiers over the rear side windows
The aerial system with diversity function optimises and improves reception in the vehicle.
The radio and navigation system “RNS MFD 2” checks the aerial input signal and outputs the result via an additional aerial connection. The information from the test result then reaches the aerial selection control unit. If the aerial signal being received is too weak, this then switches to a different aerial (diversity). The customer will not be able to perceive this procedure audibly.
Radio units “RCD 300”, “RCD 500” and radio navigation system “RNS MFD 2 DVD” are fitted with an integrated aerial diversity function. The radio units can be identified from the exterior as they have two aerial connections. There is no separate control unit for aerial selection.

Notet In vehicles with radio “RCD 300”, the aerial system consists, up to 08.03, of one aerial in the rear left side window. The respective aerial amplifier is installed above the rear left side window. The radio can be recognised from the exterior as it has only one aerial connection.
t In vehicles with the radio fitting “RCD 300” as of 09.03 and the radio unit “RCD 500”, the aerial system with “diversity function” is used. If an aerial diversity system is installed, an aerial can be found in each of the rear windows. The radio units can be identified from the exterior as they have two aerial connections.
t In radio units “RCD 300” and “RCD 500”, the diversity function is carried out in the radio unit, and there is no separate control unit for aerial selection.
t When faced with complaints, it is absolutely necessary to understand the functions and operation of the radio system.
t Additional information ? Operating manuals
t When the battery is reconnected, check operation of electrical equipment (radio, clock, convenience electronics and so on) according to the workshop manual and/or the operating manual.
In vehicles with a telephone system and/or a radio navigation system, a roof aerial is fitted at the rear of the vehicle roof.

hope it can help you ? id pull the radio and check if there is another aerial cable if so you may need to add the separate control unit for aerial selection ?

Hi, have pulled the radio out to fit the hands free kit -BTA100 - there is only one ariel connection at the back of the radio, which makes sense because i only have one rear window with the ariel in it. the after market radio as the ariel bootser plugged in the back of radio etc, cannot see anything wrong.
Wonder how hard it would be to fit a "bee sting" roof ariel, Thanks for the input.
