Either the hazard relay is on the fritz and needs replacing or its water in the ccm under the passenger footwell carpet, i would have thought anyway.

Give it a scan first, as Snaga says it could be the CCM under the carpet thats damp

The hazards will work properly. There's 2 relays in there - one for the hazards, another for the indicators. The indicator one always fails first.

The part to ask for is the hazard switch. The relays are inside it.

    cheers nick..

do you know how you get this hazard switch out ?

i wanted to take a look so that i know what i am doing..

i have got the facia trim off and the switch looks like it is held in with spring clips somewhere, are these clips left to right ?

the gap to get anything in to take them out is very small, so not sure what i will use.

I have a similar problem and have just bought a hazard switch and when I put it in it makes more noise than the old one did, my problem is when I cancel the indicator the relay carries on ticking for a bit longer then stops. I have taken out the unit underneath the carpet and the problems is still the same. There is a thread somewhere that has some good pictures of getting the relay out, it is what I used but the wire into the back of it is so short, you have to stretch it a bit with some clever use of flat screwdrivers to hold it in place when you plug it back in. I may aswell sell you the new one I bought if you are interested, as it did not cure my problem.

reading into some past threads apparently the stalk is the cause of this and it needs a good clean and spray with lube. will be doing this tomorrow.

You need to grab the edge of the switch with a pair of needle nosed pliers and pull. As you are replacing the switch you do not need to worry too much about damaging it. This article (AudiWorld Tech Articles) may help you as it shows where the springs are. Also this article (AudiWorld Tech Articles) shows how to get to the indicator stalk if that proves to be the problem
