When I purchased my 2008 VW Touareg Altitude it was fitted with the VW Premium Bluetooth Handsfree phone kit, at the time of purchasing the car I had a HTC TYTNII handset (Windows mobile) and the wife had a Nokia. We were able to get both phones working with the kit fine and no issues.

I have now left the Nokia fold and become an iPhone user and this will under no circumstances connect to the car as it does not support rSAP. I have since found out that the module for the kit under the drivers seat is in fact made by Nokia.

The wife has now swapped over to an iPhone too and rather than use a 3rd party handsfree add on in the car (want to use the steering wheels controls as well as the Colour MFD and radio screen) I have read on various forums and threads that it is possible to purchase a new module for under the drivers seat to allow the iPhone to work in the same way that the Nokia's did and interface with the car seamlessly.

Apologies if this has been posted before but does anyone have any experience of doing this and if so can they provide me with the part numbers required and instructions on how to swap it over as I believe you have to install a new bluetooth antenna to connect to the module. The module under the drivers seat has part code 7L6 035 730C on it (see attached) and the MFD is the full colour one between the dials. My RNS 510 Sat Nav is on firmware 3810 as not sure if these modules are firmware specific.

If it is indeed a simple module swap over then is there any coding that is required as I do not have a VCDS but I may be able to get someone who has if I really needed to. I have looked on EBay and found the following part numbers 7P6035730F, 7P6035730K, 7P6035730E, 7P6035730J and 5KO 035 730B which all appear to do the same thing but I am sure there will be differences

I do not want to go to the VW ******** and ask the question otherwise I will be out of pocket by £500+ no doubt for something that I bet Ebay can source!!!!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

    Thanks

    Andy

Hello, no answers I see! I'm in the same boat, I have 2008 passat with premium and a nokia unit under the drivers seat. I have read about the replacement box and it does cost a pretty penny. It also may not solve your issues. Android has rSAP apps to ease the pain of some model phones but all. I have samsung galaxy s 2 and use the app to connect but have no phone book transfer. Might as well stop and get on the phone because unless you're calling a number you've memorized (and be able to use the voice control) calling people is a pain in the neck! you have to scroll through call lists and make several selections all distracting you from driving and defeating the object of what should be a Class A system. Until android sorts its self out I have decided to use (funny old thing) a really basic nokia c2-01 which incredible boasts the connectivity required for our systems. I'm picking it up this weekend, so will post back to say if it truely does work. The idea is to bung my sim in the nokia while im out for the day in car, I have also heard you can get your sim duplicated? so the nokia could just live in the car then. hmmm. Incidentally do you remember the model no of your old nokia phone? might be able to pick one up on an auction site.

I have read about this all over the web its getting on a lot of peoples nerves. If you have found a soultion to this please share back as its begining to make me twitch when I look at the car now, and I love my VW and this just makes be b****y annoyed!

    Yours Aye

Ok so after hearing mixed replies I decided to take the plunge and purcashed a newer box from Ebay for £40 which supported the Apple iPhone. It took me about 10 minutes to swap the boxes over (most of that was trying to work out how to remove the little purple wired plug!!!) the large multiplug is easy to remove and reconnect and the little purple wired plug is easy to remove once you work out how to release the catch - this is not needed as it is the antenna for the other system.

Once the new box was connected I powered on the car and RNS510 and there was the phone kit when pressing the phone button. It was easy to pair it to my iPhone 5 and the wife's iPhone 4S

The only thing I have lost is the MFD (in between the dials on the dashboard) for the phone and the steering wheel button no longer works which is what I expected. I have looked via VCDS and the steering wheel buttons (code 77) are enabled but I can easily move my finger to the 510 touchscreen to answer the call.

The voice control also works fine and I have gained Bluetooth audio so I can play the tunes from my iPhone through the RNS 510 - so all in all a success and for only £40 and I plan to sell my old rSAP box on ebay as they go for around £50-£100

Hello and thanks for input. This is the problem with replacements if you want all of your connectivity and functionality you have to pay top money. The only cheap answer with out comprimise is using a handset with the right access profiles (nokia stitched up VW like a kipper on this one, premium bluetooth preparation was nokias brain child so its no wonder other phones havent adapted to it) like I said before getting a nokia to solve my issue.

I Havent got a straight answer from phone shop about a 'cloned' sim card but i am also talking to my provider and will post back just for info.

This was not an option for me as I use an iPhone 5 which uses a nano SIM card which will not fit into any other device!!! O2 used to sell dual SIM cards to this very use but they have since stopped offering it as it was open to abuse and caused all sorts of issues.

My solution is the best for the money and I never used the display in between the dials for the phone so just pleased to have full handsfree in the car functionality back again.

    Apple
All of this is really gripping my <REMOVED>!
I am upgrading in march and have got my local shop to agree to a few connectivity trials
Still I find it funny that some little nokia brick has more kinds of connectivity protocals/profiles than any of the leading smart phones can muster

I really want the complete functionality of my system so will keep trying.

    All the breast

I've been looking for answers for this for months, none of the mobile shops have helped nor have numerous calls with VW! What was the model of the box you purchased on eBay?
