No, due to the IMMO coding needed, this cannot be done with VCDS.
Latest VCDS version as of this date is 14.10.* Connect your laptop to the internet and allow your version to update itself

If I cannot re program the keys to the steering column lock or the steering lock to the car then I am just going to clean out the switches and hope for the best. <snip>
Yes, or change the micro switches. The steering column lock issue over here never had an extended warranty unlike in US/Canada region. But it did become a fixed price item instead of at standard dealer spares' and dealer hours' rates.

PM me an email address (if you're allowed yet via this site) or via VW Vortex or Passat World and I can reply with my help .doc, a collection of the best bits from the 'net I saved in case it ever happened to me

Most of the other faults you mention are common for B6 at this age and mileage. Or are standard maintenance items. Check your HPFP cam follower for wear and change it even if no wear. For peace of mind

    With apologies for the censorship

Yes you can recode a new lock with vcds BUT you need the cars ID code and in most countries VW will not give this to you. Even though it is your car. This means the dealer must code the new unit on line connected to VAG headquarters in Germany.

Ok, so it looks like I will be taking the steering wheel lock out as well. I just ordered the cam follower, thanks for bringing it up Richard. I would rather spend the money now than try to fight vw later.... Been down that road with a 2003 Mitsubishi Evo 8 and more recently with Ford on my 2011 F350 truck. Got both fixed but what a hassle, I think just about all auto companies will try to duck out of warranty work.

If you are changing microswitches then no reprogram is necessary.

If you are changing the Steering Lock IMMO PCB then it will have to be re-programed by dealer after

For dealer to do the whole job there's now a fixed price over here of £350 that includes all re-programing. Is there a fixed price deal in Sweden?

Advise an email address and I'll send you my collection of best info collected in case it happened to me, in .doc format

    .

I've read that in some cases you need to replace both steering column and the circut board?

What is included in the 350
£? I will contact the local volkswagen dealer tomorrow. I will pm my email.
