    Hi Everybody,

I have a problem with the EPS/ABS warning lights coming on. This only happens when I am stationary or creeping forward slowly like at traffis lights. It never happens while driving. If I stop the engine and retstart the lights go off. Even with the warning lights on the car drives perfectly normally. The car is A4 estate, petrol, automatic. After I have the problem with the lights coming on I restart the car with the brake pedal depressed as it is an automatic. When I release the brake pedal there is a grating noise which sounds like someting has been jammed and then released. Any help appreciated.

You need a code read first and then the wheel speeds need to be monitored as it sounds like one sensor is dropping out at slow speed, it may not have any codes stored so observing the wheel speeds is the only sensible way to fix it. This often happens after a CV boot has been changed.

    Crasher,

Many thanks for response. But is actually happening when the car is stationary. Just spent half an hour up and down the drive trying to replicate the problem. I've had it for about 2 years. Front discs and all break pads changed in meantime. It also very imtermittent. I can go for several weeks with no problem then it happens several times in one day. Dry and wet weather make no difference. Only trying to solve it as I want to sell the car.

As Crasher as already stated you need to get Vagcom/VCDs on it. The warning lights will have left a code in the ECU which should tell you where the fault is.

If you have a laptop PC it's worth getting a USB OBDII cable off ebay (£25 for a decent one) & downloading free VCDS Lite from the Ross Tech site. Dealers usually charge about £80 for diagnosis so it'll pay for irself straight off. Don't buy a code reader they're a waste of money.

It's worth registering with Ross Tech as you get more functions. Ross-Tech: VCDS: Function Table
