I have spent a good bit of time searching through posts about the using veg oil and bio diesel but still seem as perplexed as to whether to go for it.
A lot of the posts were from years ago and more about using veg oil rather than good quality bio diesel.
Some were saying that PD engines should not be run on bio diesel yet there are people who say they have been doing it without any problems for tens of thousands of miles.
I have two passats a 2000 tdi sport and a 2002 130 tdi se. and was wondering if there is any new relevant info as regards using bio diesel in a PD engine.
Will my 2000 be a PD or not?
Cheers and have a good day all

the problem is with bio that it is veg oil washed down with nasty chemicals to break the structure of the oil to make it thinner. there are also a lot of cowboys out to make a quick buck not filtering it or making it properly. done right its ok, but you are still burning chemicals. svo or wvo is better because its just veg oil with a bit of filtering in the case of wvo, no added chemicals. yes the kits are a lot, but, take me for instance. i run on wvo at 60 p /litre. if i had the time to collect and process wvo then it would be a lot cheaper. thats 80p cheaper than dino. thats £64 on an 80 litre fill up. 20 tanks and the kits into profit. if you do the miles then it can save a lot of money. if you don't do a lot of miles then its not worth it.

It's getting harder to find wvo and the real stuff is dearer than diesel in Ireland. You can buy properly made and tested bio-diesel in a few places but theres 2 problems, the first is simply that the fuel filter needs changed every 1000 miles or so, four or five times in a row as the bio loosens the crap and stuff from lines etc. keeping that in mind in Ireland it's 13c or less than 10p a litre cheaper, hardly worth the effort unless you are a person that likes beer with twigs in it and you cut your own hair
