Due to some mindless idiot scratching there initials into my tailgate the other week I now need to strip down the tailgate for the body shop. Does any one know how the piece of aluminium trim at the bottom of the tailgate comes off? I suspect it is stuck on with double sided tape in which case can it be removed without damaging it?

    Bad news I'm afraid:

Note: the decorative trim cannot be removed without destroying it.
    - Use plastic wedge to prise off decorative trim
    - To install, detatch backing from adhesive strip, align with left side of rear lid and clip onto pins.
So it looks like it's double sided tape AND clip pins.
Duct tape is like The Force. It has a Light Side and a Dark Side and it holds the universe together.

Thanks for that. I will have another look to see if one of those long snap off bladed knifes will get in cut through the tape. I guess dealers will never advise on reusing bits as it is not cost effective with there rates. When I worked for a body shop it is amazing how much trim and badges etc can be re used if you are careful. Just out of curiosity anyone know how much a new one is?

The usual way I've heard of to remove stick on badges is to use dental floss - it's incredibly strong, but won't scratch the paint.

I have just had a look and not to sure if the knife will do it. I will give the floss a go. If I do damage the paint its not the end of the world as it is all going to be sprayed. He said he could mask it if needed but was hoping to get it off for the best finish.
