hi everyone. I recently came back from holiday. went to go to work and the car had a hard time starting! I had to re-set the clock and the radio went to SAFE mode. all of that I kind of expected but i didn't expect the traction control light to stay on! it doesn't flash and it doesn't do anything when I press ESP. has anyone experienced this before? could it be an issue or just the computer having a funny spell?

    thanks very much,

    Matt

Try a cold boot of the car. Remove both battery terminals, hold them together for 10 seconds then leave them off for 15 minutes. If that doesn't work it's VCDS time

It looks like you had a voltage drop when you came back from your holidays this can cause faults that can be cleared with a cold boot

Either a system is draining battery down or the battery is actually weakened, if its over 4-5 years then battery would be my 1st port of call tbh.

yea i think i will fit a new battery! haven't managed to try the cold boot yet due to the weather! is it a recognised procedure? i'm worried that i will cause more damage!

Halfords will test your battery for you free of charge. They won't even expect you to buy a new one there if it is duff.

They may test it, but lets be honest if its 4-5 years old it would be best to change it now anyway as effectively its living on borrowed time & winters here pretty much.
