A few weeks ago somebody crashed into the back of my car so I had to remove the metal undertray and spoiler to get it replaced.
While that is off the car it is really easy to get at the tailpipes.

I used some household cleaning paste to clean them. They were coked up with carbon, tar and muck. But came up really shiny with a bit of elbow grease.

Is there something I could spray onto them now that would keep them shiny for longer? And avoid the dirt and carbon from sticking back onto them again so easily.

This thread is worthless without before n after pics......lol

Now that you've got them clesan the way you want them, a simple wash as part of your usual carwash routine should suffice

Mince are coming up for 6 years old and 97k miles and still as good as new, as per pics below....

I don't use anything on them other than include them in my usual weekly wash routine.

Some pipe shots. I hadn't cleaned the rest of the car when the after shots were taken.

I only clean the bits you can see, and then only very infrequently. However, a good wash with the sponge, a brillo pad to get rid of any coked up bits and then some Autoglym meatal cleaner that I also use on the pipes of my bike does the trick.

Edit: Most definitely not to Jim's standards. Detailing is a word I only disovered recently, and I'm trying to forget the whole day (yes ONE WHOLE DAY OF MY LIFE) that I spent with potions, two buckets, lambswool thingys and wierd bits of clay. My personality type is not matched to detailing. My personality type is probably best described as lazy <removed>.
