This is the drive shaft between the engine and passenger side front wheel. I noticed it while working on it today. Should there be this split in it? I had this side CV Boot changed a month ago and the mechanic said nothing about it, so it makes me think its ok???? If not, how much to replace in parts and how long should it take? Cheers

    Hi there

I am positive that NO there should not be any splits or oil leaking between the driveshaft and CV joint.

I have just recently paid out to have a N/S(passenger side) reconditioned drive shaft fitted and a new complete CV joint on my VW, the whole part was around £150, my best advice is to take your car back to where you initially had the CV boot changed and have a word with the mechanic, something is not quite right there...

That doesn't look like a new cv boot ? It's toast anyway but not that hard to change, cost less than a score including bolt take about an hour. I'd bring it back to the guy that changed it 1st
