I have just bought a 99 manual 2.5 TDI Quattro and it is fine and powerful enough apart from when it reaches 70mph. It is almost as if it has a limiter fitted, which it hasn`t that I am aware of.
As soon as you hit 70 you loose all power and the speed drops to about 65 and then everything is ok again until you try and go past 70.
This must be an ecu problem surely?
Any thoughts would be appreciated as I don`t want to pay the £95/hr Audi are quoting for exploratory work.

hehe, try a search on here for MAF fault... youll see how common this fault is. from your description of the fault im %99 certain its the MAF mate, dont bother with Audi, get a copy of vagcom and monitor the readings from the MAF for yourself if you want to be %100 sure.

i've just changed my 115 gt tdi golf's MAF for a pierburg, as it was struggling to get past 80, since i've changed it, it goes a lot better

Thnaks for that. Now strangley is has become intermittant, could it still be the MAF?

    Hello

The MAF can give off intermitant faults, when the MAF has a fault the ECU will use a generic static value to enable the car to be driven home or to a garage.

MAF faults are one oth e most common faults around.

Disconect the sensor feed in to the MAF and see how the car drives. if you can you should get your car on to a diagnostic tester to read the faults or record real time MAF reading.

where are you based, if you local you can borrow our diagnostics kit for free.

    For free yes,
It only takes 2 mins to plug into the OBD and read off the codes.
