Passat TDI turbo

Hi all, my first post.

I have a 2001, aging, tdi Passat. Recently, the turbo started whistling and with the engine idling oily smoke is wafting up behind the turbo....Not down in power.Yet.

This one has a red d and red i . I was sure it was a 130bhp but the engine code with my one is AVB ! AVB , I'm told is a 100BHP engine. I always thought that no red letters was 100bhp, red i meant 110bhp and red d and i meant 130bhp.

My question is: which one do I have ? Is there another way to find out - I presume turbos are not interchangeable and must agree with the specific engine.

I am in the process of buying one so any direction you can give is greatly appreciated !

If the engine code is AVB you have 100 bhp engine. Badges don't mean anything. Only engine code counts.
