Hi all I'm planning on moving on from a b6 to a new b7 soon and wondered about this matter regarding a towbar.
Vw want over £800 to install one for me but I know I can get a professional installation for quite a bit less than that but the question is how would this affect the warranty on the car?

Obvioulsy vw would not cover problems with the towbar or damage caused by a 3rd party installer but would they still cover everything else or?

Any feedback on this greatly appreciated indeed!
    Chris

Oops! has my joking got Chris into trouble. Sorry mate. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw Northsea. Can't you ask the dealer about tow bar fitting and waranty? My understanding is that it doesn't matter because it is an accessory but I'm not a VW dealer.

Lol sorry about the mix up with the accounts chaps.
I forgot my password on my original months ago and created a new one etc.
My computer for some reason logged on as Northsea (The temp one) and I didnt realise till after I posted this thread.
Anyway I'm not into running 2 accounts to fool anyone just myself by the looks of it! LOL

I've investigated this subject and yes you can have a towbar fitted as long as it is E.C approved.
I've been told it's "illegal" to say otherwise.

I didn't want to shell out for the VW jobbie either. The dealer arranged to have something much more affordable fitted by a local specialist at the showroom before I took delivery. So yes, it's okay.

The proposed nonsense EU law stopping any non-manufacturer parts being fitted is nowhere near being implemented yet. But I suppose the cheese mountain bureaucrats will get there eventually. Apprently a law insisting on having square tyres to slow you down in under consideration as a priority.

But incidentally, I'm really intrigued Chris, please do tell more. I didn't know we could see a poster's origin.

Later.............. stoopid question. I see you are a Mod and can look inside our very souls.

You need a more ominous avatar. Dark Lord of the Sith is already taken, but something along those lines. Something to strike fear into the heart of transgressors.
