    Hi,

    I have a 2010 Audi A4 2.0TDI 143bhp S-Line.

Looking to get it remapped, I have spoken to a lot of companies, Celtic Tuning seem like they are offering the best remap by quite a way (206bhp in comparison to about 170bhp)

When querying it, they told me the 143bhp engine is exactly the same as the 170bhp so firstly they unlock the potential of the ECU which makes it the same as the 170bhp... they then tune it as they would a 170bhp engine which takes upto 206bhp... most importantly... safely.

They said other companies just unlock it to match the 170bhp engine which is why they don't quote as high.

Does anyone have any experience with these? I have a year left on my warranty, but these are offering a 1 year warranty anyway so i'm not to concerned about that, and with them offering a warranty its not like they are going to purposely mess your car up as that would cost them more money in travel and fixing.

    Any opinions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Kevin

The first question to Celtic Tuning would be how they expect a 2 year old car to run with an extra 60bhp (what lb/ft gain?) on the stock running gear.

Regards their warranty, I'd want to see T&Cs, mainly to check that they cover consequential damage.

I have the warranty terms and conditions - unfortunately I can't upload it but the link is here: http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/downlo...g_Warranty.pdf

With regards the lb/ft gain... they say:

    ORIG MOD
    Power (Bhp) 143 206 +63
    Torque (Lbft) 236 298 +62

So anything wear & tear (such as the clutch/DMF) isn't covered - the one thing I'd be worried about with such a high increase of both bhp and torque.

Might need a few of our mappers to pass comment, but IMHO that warranty's worthless and is probably the reason not many other mappers would push the gear so hard.

Ill email Celtic Tuning with what you just said and see what they come to me with. I am concerned about messing the car up to be honest, but they are offering me it as a mobile service for £324 which isn't a bad price really.

Is the Clutch/DMF the biggest thing that could go? I was more concerned about the Turbo blowing.. is that not the case?

    Thanks for your time btw.

I've had quite a quick reply from Celtic Tuning which says:

"If you drive a vehicle exceptionally hard with or without a remap, all components are going to wear down faster, the reason we do not cover certain areas are simply because if you drive the vehicle a lot harder than you normally would, items are going to wear down. The remap does not cause any additional wear on components but it will highlight any underlying issue with the vehicle like mentioned.

The clutch is a wear and tear item and as such doesn’t have a set shelf life, it is all depending on how the vehicle is driven, with regards to the clutch and flywheel, we make sure the drive train is fully engaged before the power comes in to make sure there is no additional wear."

They have also said that if I didn't want 206bhp, I could specify what bhp I wanted under that and they would just put less power in to the vehicle.

They are saying all the right things so far imo. :-\

That was a rather quick response, less than 10 minutes? Fairly comprehensive too.

If it were me, I'd go with the people I've used before - RSTuning, simply because I've seen him and his maps in action and I like his ethos.

It's not the first time I've come across Celtic tuning offering higher than norm maps, offering a warranty which is worthless unsettles me.

How do they propose to dyno your car on a mobile map?

Yes I thought it was a quick response to, must have caught him whilst he was on the computer.

Ive already asked the question about the dyno, they can't to put it blunt, he told me I would need to get it dyno'd at a garage of my choice but they guarantee within 1 to 2bhp.

Reason i'm looking at these more than others is because its about 36bhp more than anyone else is offering which is quite a lot. Also the price is pretty decent and it would be convenient to get it done whilst i'm in work.

How much do RSTuning charge and where are they based?

    Thanks

Hmmm, just leave it as it came out of the factory. If you want a faster car, buy one with more power as standard. Remaps, particularly ones with such high power gains are a sure way to ruin your car. Prepare for the turbo and clutch/flywheel replacement bills.

What will such a big hike to do your insurance?!

I'd love to believe all the advertising hype about remaps, but as I have said on here many times before, nobody has yet come up with any sound scientific facts about where various company's remap figures come from. Where did the 206bhp come from? Who decided that is the safe limit? What testing did they do? How long did the clutch last before it fell apart? How much additional stress does it put on the turbo?

Mine is a 1.9TDI 105. Not particularly quick, and I'd love to have it remapped, but nobody can categorically state how much additional stress is placed on standard running gear. Some companies say the 105 is safe upto 130hp, other 145, others say 150+...who decides where the safe limit is?!?!

I wouldn't necessarily go with a company on the sole basis of them offering the highest gains.

I'd also not trust a map without a dyno to run/test.
